The long-awaited Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill is all set to take over India by the 1st July, 2017. Considered as a landmark tax reform in the history of independent India, GST implementation is expected to transform the everyday business routine of small and medium businesses in India. With the Indian GST coming into picture, taxes such as VAT, Service Tax, Excise, Octroi, etc. will be merged under one single tax. It will be divided between the State and the Centre for an easier and a simpler taxation system.
To ensure a smooth transition to the GST tax structure, the Indian government has launched the GST Portal (www.gst.gov.in) which is a dedicated portal for assistance with GST enrollment. As per the revised user enrollment schedule, enrollments have begun for existing applicants who had registered by the 31st January 2016 under VAT, Service Tax, Excise, etc. Enrollments for subsequent users who have registered after 31st January 2016 has not commenced yet.
For migrating to GST, all registrants will require their Provisional ID and Password, which will be provided to them by Automation of Central Excise and Service Tax (ACES) department.
All existing taxpayers of VAT, Service Tax and Central Excise are requested to register on the GST Portal by following these simple steps.
Registrants will be directed to the Login window.
